Coolmore stallion Fastnet Rock sired his first feature winner in New Zealand when Conscious Mistake scored a runaway victory in the Ashburton 2YO Classic on Friday.
Conscious Mistake (2g Fastnet Rock – Sutology by Straussbrook) was always in the leading division and simply toyed with his rivals in the straight to score by the best part of three lengths.
Fastnet Rock is rewriting the record books this season. He has sired 64 winners of 81 races and his oldest are only March three year-olds. His NZ tally is now up to three after Belles Fast (New Plymouth) and Affirmation (Arawa Park) won in the North Island late last year.
His latest NZ winner is prepared by Michael Pitman who became the first South Island conditioner to capture a New Zealand premiership since the 1970s when he trained 86 winners in 2007-08.
Conscious Mistake is the first foal from Pitman’s excellent mare Sutology who won the 2005 G2 Matron Stakes at Flemington. She also stretched out to score over 3000m at Moonee Valley.
Sutology has a yearling filly by Fastnet Rock and a filly foal by Holy Roman Emperor. Pitrman and his son Johnny kept her at Coolmore to be bred back to Henrythenavigator in October.
