Woodside Park Stud champion Written Tycoon sired his second Group 1 winning juvenile within a fortnight in New Zealand on Saturday.
Kiwi filly Luna Rossa joined the elite ranks in the Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) a fortnight after his champion colt Capitalist claimed the G1 Golden Slipper Stakes at Rosehill.
Luna Rossa (2f Written Tycoon – Wild Promises by More Than Ready) produced a whirlwind finish in heavy going at Awapuni to score by a long neck from Sicario (Bullbars) and Saracino (Per Incanto). She was coming off a narrow win at Trentham and will now be spelled for a spring campaign.
“She’s a Group 1 winner by Written Tycoon and is a very valuable filly,” co-trainer Andrew Forsman said. “She will be much better with time and is going to make a really nice three-year-old.”
Luna Rossa is a homebred for Jomara Bloodstock’s John, Mark & Rachael Carter and is the only foal of minor winner Wild Promises. Second dam Otravez (Redoute’s Choice) is a half-sister to the dam of Northern Meteor Group winners Shooting To Win and Deep Field.
Written Tycoon has sired 16 stakes winners and he has two yearlings entered for the Inglis Easter Sale this week starting with the grey colt from Bellotto mare True Seduction (Lot 119). He is a half-brother to three winners and is being offered by Carramar Park on behalf of Woodside Park.
Woodside Park stood Written Tycoon for a $19,800 (inc gst) service fee last year but that’s bound to increase in 2016. After the weekend’s results, he had sired 99 individual winners of 165 races in Australia for earnings over $7.72 million.
