NZ bred styer Kincaple will be set for the $400,000 Perth Cup after a runaway victory in the LR Kalgoorlie Cup (2300m) on Saturday.

Kincaple (6g Pentire – Kincaple Lass by Kaapstad) started an odds-on favourite and won by more than two lengths from Battle Emblem (Second Empire) and Kasabian (Choisir) in the third leg of the Goldfields Triple Crown.  

He had won the Coolgardie Cup but was denied a $100,000 bonus after being beaten a nose in the Boulder Cup.  “He’ll go for a spell and come back for the Perth Cup,” trainer Mark Reed said.  “It would have been nice to win the bonus but we can’t complain.”

Reed, who also holds a harness training license, won the 2009 Kalgoorlie Cup with NZ bred galloper Gondorff.  The Montjeu gelding was first past the post again last year but was later disqualified.

Kincaple was a $150,000 graduated of the 2007 NZB Karaka yearling sale.  He had won races at Cranbourne (2) and Seymour for trainer Jim Conlon before heading west in May.

Bred and sold by Rich Hill Stud, Kincaple is a half-brother to Kincaple Dancer (Bertolini) who was a multiple winner in Hong Kong.  It is also the family of the G3 Stewards Handicap winner Kincaple Lad.

Rich Hill will be offering a Pentire brother to Kincaple at the 2012 Karaka yearling sales.
