Lady looks towards Captain Cook Stakes

Lady Kipling (NZ) has an elite assignment ahead after winning the G2 Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes at Pukekohe on Saturday.

Trainer Murray Baker said the NZ bred mare will head towards the Captain Cook Stakes at Trentham in December.  “We will give her a week and have a good think, but obviously we’ve got the Captain Cook Stakes in mind.  She’s very strong and is a lovely mare with a great temperament.”

Lady Kipling (5m Savabeel – Akela by Al Akbar) settled on the pace but was headed by outsider Miss Pelear (Mr Nancho) in the final stages at Pukekohe.  “I think Opie (Bosson) was kidding them close to home, great rider that he is,” Baker said.  “He saved her for the final bit.”

A $62,500 yearling purchase from Windsor Park’s 2009 Karaka draft, Lady Kipling is a half-sister to the stakes performer Lady Chapel (King’s Chapel) and has now won 9 of her 26 starts.  She has also been G1 placed in the Otaki Maori WFA Stakes and Levin Classic.

Lady Kipling is by Waikato Stud champion Savabeel from Akela who is a half-sister to the dam of Listed Qld Tattersall’s Mile winner Hirschberg (Sea Road).  She has a 2yo filly by High Chaparral and a yearling filly by Thorn Park.
