Group 1 broodmare Urge to Merge has been put down at Arrowfield Stud. The 19-year-old matron was suffering from laminitis.
Urge to Merge (Last Tycoon) was bred in 1993 and is a member of one of the most distinguished families in the Australian Stud Book. Her dam Princess Tracy (Ahonoora) was a G3 winner in Ireland for Robert Sangster and she went on to produce 7 winners from 10 foals.
Among them was South African Champion Filly Tracy’s Element, G1 winner & sire Danasinga, G2 winner Topasannah, and G3 winners & sires Towkay and Cullen.
Tracy’s Element has enhanced the family’s record as the dam of 2010 Australian Horse of the Year Typhoon Tracy plus the stakes performers Red Element and Kylikwong.
Urge to Merge won a Seymour maiden in April 1997 for trainer Peter Hayes and at stud has foaled six winners highlighted by G1 winners Suntagonal (Premier’s Champion Stakes at Greyville) and Master Of Design (T J Smith Stakes at Randwick).
Owned by Arrowfield and John Leaver, Urge To Merge has left two final fillies – a yearling by Charge Forward and a foal by Not A Single Doubt born on September 2.
