Landmark result for Raheen Stud

Raheen Stud produced 4 of the 8 winners on a landmark day for the Nolan family at Saturday’s Doomben meeting.

ROCKET TO GLORY (5g Shovhog – English Summer by Dodge) launched the four-timer with a second sprint success in the space of a fortnight.  He was a front-running winner of the Rohrig Group Hcp (1010m) and it took his earnings past a half-million dollars.

Raheen studmaster Basil Nolan snr sold him for $20,000 at the 2010 Magic Millions QTIS 600 yearling sale.  He is by former Raheen sire Shovhog and his dam English Summer has a 2yo filly by Publishing, a yearling filly by Captain Sonador and is due to Rothesay.

Trainer Tony Gollan is weighing up whether to keep Rocket To Glory in Brisbane or take him interstate for the rich spring sprints down south.

Raheen resident Publishing has sired 9 winners and 8 placegetters in his first-crop and Treasure Map is going right on with the job this season.

TREASURE MAP (3g Publishing – Ski Treasure by Portland Pirate) won at Toowoomba in July and made the transition to city racing with a narrow victory in the Ambush Security Hcp (1600m) on Saturday.

He was ridden by comeback apprentice Tegan Harrison who also partnered Rocket To Glory.  Trainer Michael Nolan always thought Treasure Map would keep improving up to a mile and that prediction is paying off for owner-breeders Neville and Kara Carter.

Ski Treasure is due to deliver another Publishing foal for the Carters.  The Raheen sire notched a double on Saturday – he also won a QTIS race with Centrefold Babe for Bundaberg based trainer Mary Hassam.

Raheen is prepping five Publishing colts for the Magic Millions 2YO HIT Sale at the Gold Coast on September 24 & 25.  They all clocked sub-11 second breeze-ups for 200 metres and Publishing is already well ahead of schedule with so many early winners considering his stock will keep improving as the season progresses.

Mearas weighed in with a Raheen double courtesy of Regular and Anna Lizzie at Doomben.  The Redoute’s Choice stallion died after a sole season at stud in 2008.

REGULAR (4g Mearas – Sagre by Clang) is a homebred for Gold Coast trainer Bryan Guy, his wife Kerry and long-time client Jim Forsyth.  He had won races at Ipswich and Gold Coast (2) before saluting in the Ormiston College Plate (1350m) on Saturday.

His dam Sagre has a yearling filly by Darley shuttler Teofilo who sired Voleuse De Coueurs to win the G1 Irish St Leger on the weekend.  Sagre is due to foal to Captain Sonador in October.

Anna Lizzie flew home from the tail to touch off her rivals in the Ormiston Old Collegians Plate (1350m).  The Mearas mare was racing first-up after a spell for new trainer Craig Tyrrell after completing a hat-trick last time in for Alan Bailey.

ANNA LIZZIE (4m Mearas – Strange Aura by Kreisler) was purchased by James Grant out of the Raheen draft for $20,000 at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  Her NZ bred dam Strange Aura won 6 races including the Golden Garter at Eagle Farm and she was also runner-up in a LR Silk Stocking at the Gold Coast.

She has a two year-old half-brother by Publishing on the books with trainer Stuart Kendrick.

Raheen Stud’s new sire Golden Archer will stand for a $6,600 fee this year alongside Captain Sonador ($11,000) and Publishing ($4,400).  All service fees (inc gst).
