Shakespearean Lass became the 13th black-type winner by Written Tycoon with a hard-fought victory in the Listed W J Adams Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
It brought up a double for her family and trainer Pat Carey. Her older half-brother and stablemate Dan Zephyr (Danbird) also won at Caulfield following a quick back-up from a Flemington victory last week.
“We ended up having a lovely run,” jockey Rhys McLeod said after steering home Shakespearean Lass. “We peeled off their backs at the top of the straight and she was too strong hitting the line.”
Carey prepared their dam Eliza Dream (Desert Sun) to three wins including the Azzurro Super VOBIS Hcp at Sandown. Her second dam La Zip (Zephyr Zip) was Group 1 placed in the Blue Diamond Stakes won by Bounding Away.
“It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been in racing, it’s that little bit more special going to the next generation,” Carey’s wife Cheryl said. “We trained the mother and it’s good to see the owners back you up and follow it through.”
Victorian breeder Colin Purss retained both gallopers and races them with friends and relations Mathew Gehle, Andrew Gill, Anthony Hales, Robert Knowles, Marcella Lopez, Stefanie & Marcus Middleton, Vicki Parr, Noel Paton, John Stark and Jarrad Willoughby.
Written Tycoon sired a winning treble at Caulfield – Grande Rosso & Written bookended Shakespearean Lass – and the Woodside Park sire was also represented by Morphettville winner Boys Getaround Him on Saturday.
