Lateva lands first win for Zupaone

Lateva registered the first win for Rangal Park recruit Zupaone at Kilmore on Sunday.  It came just a day after his own sire Flying Spur was pensioned by Arrowfield Stud.

Lateva (3f Zupaone – Valentine’s Gift by Ifrad) scored by almost three lengths but not before giving connections some anxious moments leading up to her debut in the Kone Elevators Maiden (1112m).  The Byron Cozamanis trained filly was a handful for jockey Aaron Spiteri and had to pass a vet inspection behind the barriers.

Lateva’s prospects didn’t improve when she missed the kick and settled last of the 10 runners.  Spiteri took the initiative and circled the field before the filly put the race to bed into the straight.

Zupaone won 5 of his first 9 starts including the G3 Spring Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.  He retired to Hollylodge Thoroughbreds in Avenel and stood there until owner Chris Nevill transferred him to Rangal Park earlier this year.

Lateva was bred by Millicent based Heather Burdon and is a younger half-sister to LR Kilmore Cup winner Tszyu (Encosta de Lago) and Flemington stakes winner Grand Duels (Marechal).

Zupaone stands at Rangal Park for a $5,500 service fee.
