Leading sire kidnapped in Italy

Leading Italian sire Martino Alonso has been kidnapped from Siba Stud in Italy.  The 15 year-old son of Marju is Italy’s leading sire of juveniles this year.

Kidnapping is a part of Italian life but, as far as the racing is concerned, it has mainly affected leading trotters in recent years.  Like them, Martino Alonso has presumably been taken for ransom according to a report in UK Racing Post.

Martino Alonso (Marju – Cheerful Note by Cure The Blues) was bred by Godolphin and won 9 races in addition to being G1 placed in Italy behind Waky Nao and Taipan.  He went to stud in 2001 and his best performer to date has been Hong Kong Cup winner Ramonti.
