Pocket Power failed in an attempt to claim the J&B Met at Kenilworth for an unprecedented fourth year running on Saturday. South Africa’s champion galloper finished a close up third behind his younger sister River Jetez!
It marked the first Group 1 win for River Jetez, who ran third in last year’s J&B Met behind her older brother. River Jetez and Pocket Power are both trained by Mike Bass.
The Group 1 winning pair are by South Africa’s champion sire Jet Master out of the winning Prince Florimund mare Stormsvlei. The dam is a half-sister to the South African champion sprinter Harry’s Echoe and a daughter of Group 1 winner Distant Echoes.
The Kenilworth meeting was a particularly notable one for Jet Master (Rakeen). He was also represented by Love Is In The Air and Gluewein who dead-heated for first in the Group 1 Majorca Stakes.
Jet Master heads the South African sires’ table ahead of Silvano. He stands for R170,000 at Klipdrif Stud in the Western Cape.
