Lonhro colt wins Chinese 3YO Championship

Australian bred horses have starred at China’s Flat Racing Championships in Wuhan taking out four of the five thoroughbred races in front of a 10,000 crowd.

Bright Future (3c Lonhro- Madame Dehereos) was the highlight of Saturday’s fixture at the Orient Lucky City Racecourse winning the 3YO Championship (2100m).  He defeated fellow Australian bred Tianfu Eagle (Hussonet).

Bright Future was sold by Shipton Lodge for $160,000 at the 2010 Inglis Easter yearling sale.

Sunday’s card was headlined by the Open Class Sprint won by Fly Fly (Rohatyn – Ionian Lady).  The four year-old mare was sold for $3,250 by Tolka Stud in August 2008 at Oaklands Junction.  She led all the way to down former Australian city winner Red Peony (Exceed And Excel) by over three lengths.

Sunday’s 2YO Championship was won by Race Eagle (Henny Hughes – Ma Victoire) who overcame a chequered passage in the straight to power past her rivals in a very impressive display.

The daughter of crack Darley sprinter Henny Hughes was snapped up from the draft of Ampulla Lodge for $10,000 at this year’s Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale.

Vanguard (Amalfi-  Shintori) rounded out the quartet of Australian bred winners in the 1800m event on Sunday.
