Cornerstone Stud sire De Beers (Quest For Fame) will be represented by the aptly named Whitten’s Brew in the $100,000 LR Emirates Airlines Plate over 1000m at Flemington on Tuesday.
A recent Morphettville trial winner, Whitten’s Brew was bred by Cornerstone Stud and is part-owned by the Ted Whitten Foundation which has been set up to promote awareness for Prostate Cancer and Men’s Health.
Several members of the Ted Whitten Foundation, led by Maurie Ranger, took a share in the two year-old filly in which 10% of prize money earned will be donated back to the foundation. Cornerstone Stud has also shown its support by giving 25% of the sale price to this cause.
Trainer Tony McEvoy is particularly pleased with Whitten’s Brew and believes she will continue to develop with time. “She is a lovely, lengthy filly who keeps telling me she wants to go to the races,” McEvoy said. “Whatever she does now is a bonus as I see her as a three year-old.”
Whitten’s Brew (2f De Beers – Wiitiko by Aliocha) was the second trial winner in two weeks for Cornerstone stallion De Beers, a positive early sign for a horse that won his Group 1 as a three year-old.
Whitten’s Brew will race in red, blue and white stripes, akin to those colours worn by “Mr Football” at Footscray.
