More Than Ready’s brother to last week’s Sha Tin winner Lucky More made $280,000 on Day 1 of the Gold Coast Magic Millions and, not surprisingly, he will eventually head to Hong Kong.
The colt (pictured) will be trained by Frankie Lor after being purchased by Lai Kim Wai who bought him on type as well as the local connection. “More Than Ready’s stock have been very successful in Hong Kong,” he said of Lot 50. “This colt is a very strong individual and we were very happy to get him for that money.”
Offered by Vinery (as agent), he’s from You da One (Fastnet Rock) has More than Ready stakes winners right down the page from Always Allison (Sweet Embrace Stakes Gr.2) through to Benicio (Victoria Derby Gr.1).
Trainer Tony McEvoy knows all about the background of More Than Ready’s colt from Assertive Eagle colt (Lot 100) that he bought for $200,000 in conjunction with Belmont Bloodstock agent Damon Gabbedy. He trained the dam to win a Proud Miss Stakes LR in Adelaide and her second foal is a three-quarter brother to Queensland Derby Gr.1 winner Eagle Way.
“Assertive Eagle was a gorgeous mare and would have gone right to the top but for a few setbacks,” McEvoy recalled. “I didn’t bid on her first foal but I really like this one. And there’s nothing more to say about More Than Ready. What a horse!”
Melbourne Cup winning trainer Danny O’Brien weighed in with $200,000 for the Tavistock half-sister to More Than Ready stakes winner Kooweerup offered by Vinery (as agent). “She’s easy to like. A lovely-walking, big filly with a definite presence,” O’Brien said of Lot 77. “We profiled her as a spring 3yo and she will be sharp enough to win at a mile and then get over 2000m.”
