Lords Ransom signalled he will be the horse to beat in the $400,000 G2 BMW Perth Cup (2400m) (Ascot Race 8 at 4.35pm AWST) on New Years Day after an impressive last-start victory in the G2 C B Cox Stakes at Ascot.

It has been a long and winding road for Lords Ransom who after securing the 2008 Bunbury- Pinjarra Cup double was once considered a live Caulfield-Melbourne Cup chance.  But he encountered setback after setback with east coast trainers, before owner Bob Peters returned him to Adam Durrant.

Durrant ran Lords Ransom first-up in the Railway Stakes over 1600m, with the Cox Stakes and Perth Cup double the main target.  He ran a slashing fifth in the Railway Stakes, before racing flat at his next outing in the Kingston Town Classic.

Peters purchased the son of Jeune from the Wm Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale for $15,000. “I was sending mares to Jeune and that was less than the service fee,” he said. ” I still think he can measure up anywhere when he’s right.”

Deceased Lindsay Park stallion Jeune has Impressive Jeuney improving his record in Perth with recent victories in the Listed WATC WA St Leger and La Trice Classic.

True Steel won the 2003 G1 Kingston Town Classic for Jeune who retired to Lindsay Park after a career highlighted by a memorable victory in the 1994 Melbourne Cup.

Lords Ransom is from Palace Music mare Palace Alice who won races in Tasmania, Sydney and Melbourne.  Second dam Stuck Up (Vain) was a winning half-sister to (My) Sir Avon (Avon Valley) who was a G1 winner of the New Zealand 2000 Guineas and the G2 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Flemington.
