Loup Solitaire euthanased in France

Loup Solitaire,was put down after fracturing a leg at Haras du Grand Chesnaie in France this week.  The 18 year-old covered 60 mares this season at a fee of 2,000 euros.

Loup Solitaire (Lear Fan – Louveteau by Nureyev) was a top-class performer for trainer Andre Fabre and the Wildenstein family.  He won the G1 Grand Criterium at two and ran second to Helissio in the G1 Prix Lupin at three.

He retired to Haras du Mezeray in 1997 was based there for the following 11 seasons before transferring to Haras du Grand Chesnaie.

Last season’s Prix du Cadran and Royal-Oak winner Gentoo was his sole G1 winner.  He also sired G2 Cashcall Mile Invitational winner Lady Of Venice and was also popular with national hunt breeders in his later years.

Loup Solitaire was the product of a notable Wildenstein family being a half-brother to G1 Prix d’Ispahan winner Loup Sauvage who shuttled to Vinery for four seasons until 2002.  Their second dam Lupe (Primera) was a G1 winner of the 1970 English Oaks.
