The Tatling still going strong at 14

Sydney teenager Mustard made headlines when he won at Rosehill earlier this season.  The 13 year-old is a veteran of 119 starts but he’s just a tyke compared to The Tatling.

The Tatling is 14 years-old and is still going strong in England after 170 starts!  He charged home to win at Yarmouth on Thursday as the 7-2 favourite!

At his peak, The Tatling won the 2004 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot and was runner-up three times in the G1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York.

“You’d have thought we had won the Derby,” trainer Milton Bradley said.  “It was great to see all the cheering when he came back in.  He still looks outstanding.

“When he doesn’t want to do it anymore then we will stop. You can see he still loves it.  He can’t get down to the stalls quick enough.  He always wants to get on with it.

“He will be back in action again soon because he hates not doing anything.”

The Tatling (14g Perugino – Aunty Eileen by Ahonoora) has earned over 685,400 pounds.  He cost 54,000gns as a yearling at Tattersalls in September 1998.  He changed hands again for 11,000gns as a 4yo at Tattersalls in July 2001.

His sire Perugino shuttled to Australia and his initial crop out here were born in 1996.  His G1 racehorse and sire Testa Rossa was foaled in September that year and The Tatling was among his next northern crop in April 1997.
