Lynward Park flyer wins BOBS Award

Lynward Park-bred mare Fituese worked strongly at Flemington on Tuesday morning in her final serious work for the G3 Begonia Belle Stakes (1100m) this Saturday.

The newly-crowned NSW BOBS Horse Of The Year clocked 22.48s for the final 400m of her hit-out down the straight at HQ.  “She’s small but so athletic and is strengthening up as she matures,” trainer John Thompson said.  “She’s so relaxed just keeps stepping up to every challenge.”

Raced by Prime Thoroughbreds, Fituese (Deep Field) shared the BOBS Award with Mr Edison (Fastnet Rock) who is managed by Highclere Thoroughbreds.  The number of 2yo and 3yo horses eligible for the Horse Of The Year was over 12,000.

Fituese has won 6 of her 10 starts topped by the LR Denise’s Joy Stakes at Rosehill in May.  She was last seen finishing a close runner-up going anti-clockwise for the first time in the LR Alinghi Stakes at Caulfield.

Lynward Park sold her for $55,000 through the Western Breeders Alliance draft to the 2018 Perth Magic Millions.  A black-type victory on the first day of the Melbourne Cup carnival will likely see her return west for the G1 Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot on November 28.

Her dam Cattalo (Tiger Hill) has a 2yo filly by Lynward Park sire Mahuta with Mingenew breeders Rod and Tania Cosgrove.  Mahuta’s first crop have been seen out at the Belmont and Lark Hill trials in recent weeks with trainers like Hayden Ballantyne, Misty Bazeley and Lindsey Smith.

Lynward Park stands Mahuta (Flying Spur) for $3,300 alongside Bondi (Snitzel) who is priced at $5,500.  Both fees (inc GST).
