South Australian visitor Moving Money staved off all challengers to take out the $90,000 Listed Tasmanian Guineas (1600m) in Launceston on Wednesday night.
Moving Money (3g Artie Schiller – Subsequential by Second Empire) raced outside the leader Bionic Star to the home turn before forging clear in the straight. He held out fast closer Barysh Quest (West Quest) win by a head with the favourite Anelene (Written Tycoon) a close-up third.
A Murray Bridge maiden in May, he and added further victories at Morphettville in June and December before travelling to Tasmania. “We came here off a win in a quality race over 1250m back home in Adelaide but he was still unknown at 1600m,” Macdonald said. “He ran it out – but only just.”
Moving Money is raced by a syndicate headed by leading Adelaide owner-breeder Harry Perks and was a $60,000 buy from Mill Park at the 2010 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale.
His sire Artie Schiller shuttled to Independent Stallions in 2007 and his dam Subsequential won five races and was also G2 placed in the 2007 Queen Of The South Stakes. The mare has foaled colts for the last three years to Darley sires Nadeem and New Approach while her latest is by Arrowfield resident Starcraft.
Runner-up Barysh Quest is now Tasmanian Derby bound while Anelene was game in defeat and will be very had to beat in the Tasmanian Thousand Guineas in February.
