Bart Cummings was back in action on Day 2 of the Magic Millions with a shopping list that included a Bernardini colt and Show A Heart sister to Mimi Lebrock.
The Hall of Fame legend broke new ground for Darley sire Bernardini when he paid $300,000 for the colt out of Danehill mare Miguelita. Offered by Southern Cross Breeders, he is from a three-quarter sister to NZ stakes winner Brocco Babe.
The price bettered the Magic Millions mark for a freshman this year which was set by Darley sire Street Sense on Day 1. His colt out of winning Danzero mare Dazzerdame was knocked down for $145,000 on Wednesday.
Bart will probably prepare the Street Sense youngster, too. That colt was bought by Dato Tan Chin Nam’s racing manager Duncan Ramage.
The Show a Heart – God Love It filly set Bart back $270,000 which was $100K more than Mimi Lebrock cost at the 2006 Gold Coast Sale. Bart prepared Mimi to win the 2007 Magic Millions 2YO Classic and over $1.15 million in prizemoney.
On Day 1 at the Magic Millions, Cummings paid $75,000 for a colt by his Caulfield Guineas winner Wonderful World from Cathie’s Lane. The master also weighed in with $65,000 for a Testa Rossa – Empirical colt from Kitchwin Hills. His dam is a half-sister to Bart’s Queensland Derby winner Empires Choice.
