It was a big day in Malaysia for Magic Millions graduates on Sunday when Australian bred gallopers took  out both feature races on the Penang program.

Captain Obvious, a son of former Alwyn Park stallion Verglas,  confirmed his status as one of Malaysia’s best up and coming gallopers when he won the RM$1 million G3 Malaysian Magic Millions Classic.

Trained by master horseman K L Chong, Captain Obvious was a $24,00 purchase from the 2007 Perth Magic Millions and took his record to three wins from five starts with victory in the G3 event.  “He looks a top prospect and it just goes to show what value can be had at our sales,” Magic Millions Managing Director David Chester said.  “KL Chong is a major supporter of Magic Millions and Captain Obvious did a great job.”

Captain Obvious is the third winner for the lightly raced Tirol mare Shathor, who is a half sister to G1 Karrakatta Plate winner Umah (Umatilla).  Captain Obvious is closely related to a number of  Australian Group winners including Visit, Anyone Home, Sardana, Sonstone, Northern Reward, Suzy Grey and Fernandina.

The G1 Astro Wah Lai Toi Sprint Trophy (1400m) at Penang was also dominated by Magic Millions runners  when Triple Luck led all the way to defeat Good Nature and Cheyenne Dancer.

Triple Luck (6g Akhenaton-Casual Lies by Huntingdale) was a $15,000 purchase by trainer Simon Liew at the 2005 Perth Magic Millions and is the first stakes winner for Casual Lies, a half sister to G1 Goodwood Handicap  winner Daring Jon (Jon George).
