Platinum Kingdom posted the first black-type win for his sire Magnus at Riccarton on Saturday. It continued the marvellous run for Lincoln Farms and trainer Lisa Latta.
Platinum Kingdom (2g Magnus – Miss Rangoon by Giant’s Causeway) triumphed in the LR Champagne Stakes (1200m) and Latta immediately tagged him a genuine contender for the G1 NZ 2000 Guineas back at Riccarton in November.
“He was a handful in his first three starts before being gelded,” Latta revealed. “He came back to win at home at Awapuni and that confirmed a tilt at the Champagne Stakes.
“He will go to the paddock now,” Latta added. “He did everything spot on and has had the trip down there and a good look around.”
Platinum Kingdom is raced by John & Lynne Street and Graeme & Erin Blackburn under the Lincoln Farms banner. They teamed up to win the G2 Rich Hill Mile with Platinum Princess (Keeper) at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day.
Stablemate Fort Lincoln (Charge Forward) won the Karaka Million last year and President Lincoln (O’Reilly) annexed the G2 Wellington Guineas.
Magnus (Flying Spur) scored a G1 victory in the AJC The Galaxy before Yallambee Stud’s Woodard family retired him to stand at Eliza Park. He sired the black-type placegetters How Swede It Is, Imprimis and Magnus Reign before the breakthrough in New Zealand.
