Classy filly Marveen will continue with her Brisbane Winter Carnival aspirations when she steps out in the G2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) at Eagle Farm on June 6.

The decision to run in the Guineas means Marveen (3f Orientate-Shiny by Forest Glow) will bypass the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale which begins on June 4, a sale that she was catalogued as Lot 703.

“We nominated her for the Rough Habit Plate this week, but decided to give her a little bit of a freshen up and run her in the Queensland Guineas,” trainer Robert Smerdon said.

Smerdon added that Marveen had pulled up with no ill-effects following her last start sixth to Rampant Lion in the G3 Lord Mayor’s Cup (1615m). “There were no real issues with her, and she pulled up fine,” Smerdon said.  “Craig (Williams, jockey) was of the opinion that she didn’t track as well on the outside of horses. She did the same thing on the Gold Coast the other week.  It’s no major issue, we will just make a few minor gear changes.” 

Marveen is by former Arrowfield shuttler Orientate and is the third filly for the lightly raced Shiny, who is a half sister to the dam of 1999 G1 AJC Flight Stakes winner Danglissa (Danzero).  She also descends from the same family that produced three time G1 winning sprinter Spinning Hill (Dolphin Street).

A winner of more than half a million dollars in prize money, Marveen is a three time Listed winner, and is a half sister to the stakes placed Jestajewel (Rory’s Jester) and Stoneblack (Danzero).

Another half brother by Danzero was withdrawn from this year’s Inglis Easter Sale.  Shiny was served by Coolmore shuttler Choisir last year.
