Adam Sangster has signed Master Of Design to stand at Swettenham Stud in Nagambie. The Group 1 winning son of Redoute’s Choice will be available for an early-bird fee of $12,500 (inc gst).
”Redoute’s Choice has established himself as a great sire of sires and we have been looking to stand one of his sons at Swettenham for some time now,” Sangster said. ”Master Of Design has got the conformation you would expect in a $2.10 million yearling, he’s from a family of successful stallions and, of course, he has proven himself in the highest level of racing as a Group 1 winner.”
Master Of Design (Redoute’s Choice – Urge To Merge by Last Tycoon) was retired after reaching the elite level in the G1 T J Smith Stakes at Randwick last month clocking a slick 1.08.83s. That time has only been bettered by the great Black Caviar in the 2011 edition of the T J Smith.
Group 1 winning sprinters with a stallion’s pedigree are thin on the ground in an era dominated by Swettenham graduate Black Caviar. “We are very excited to have been able to secure Master Of Design as he boasts that rare combination of multi-million dollar looks and Group 1 winning substance,” Sangster continued. “No son of Redoute’s Choice has won more than one Group 1 race and Master of Design is the only one to win in weight-for-age company at that level.”
Master of Design was purchased for $2.10 million at the 2007 Sydney Easter yearling sale by renowned judge John Ferguson on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed.
He showed considerable promise as a young horse winning three sprints for Lee Freedman but he really blossomed after joining David Payne in Sydney last year.
“He’s a serious horse,” Payne recalled after Master of Design won the G2 Theo Marks Quality (1300m) at Rosehill last October. “‘He came back this year and never got out at any stage in the Oakleigh Plate. Then he lost two shoes in the Newmarket so the T J Smith was a just reward.”
Master Of Design is a Redoute’s Choice half-brother to G1 South African Champion Stakes winner Suntagonal (Octagonal). He is bred on the same Redoute’s Choice – Last Tycoon cross as Queensland Derby winner Dariana.
The combination has produced a total of seven stakes winners from only 39 named foals.
Urge To Merge is a sister to Champion South African filly Tracy’s Element and leading NZ sire Towkay. She is also a half-sister to Metal Bender’s sire Danasinga. Tracy’s Element is the dam of Australian Horse of the Year Typhoon Tracy (Red Ransom).
