The Freedman brothers prepared for a Group 1 assault in the Blue Diamond Stakes with a runaway winner in Singapore on Friday night.

Nandowra (3g Savabeel – Fabaz by O’Reilly) won by seven lengths second-up at Kranji and trainer Michael Freedman predicts a very bright future for the NZ bred youngster.  “I was confident of a good run but I didn’t think he would win that easily,” Freedman said.  “He won purely on raw ability.”

Lee Freedman’s promising colt Atomic looks the logical danger to odds-on favourite Sepoy in the G1 Blue Diamond at Caulfield on Saturday.  The Commands youngster is part-owned by John O’Neill and he combined with the Freedmans to win the 2003 Caulfield Cup and 2005 Singapore Cup with stable favourite Mummify.

The Mummify Stable races Nandowra and he was a cheap $25,000 buy out of the 2009 NZB Premier yearling sale at Karaka.  

“He caught my eye in a Melbourne trial last year,” Michael Freedman recalled.  “He still does a lot of things wrong but certainly has a lot of scope for the future.”

Freedman will set him for the Singapore 3YO Challenge starting with the 3YO Sprint (1200m) on April 1.  It’s a three leg series and continues with the 3YO Classic (1400m) on April 22 and Singapore Guineas on May 20.

Nandowra is the latest Singapore based three year-old to emerge from the Freedman yard recently.  The Bradbury’s luck geldings Kennecott and Cash Luck have also been very impressive winners at Kranji this year.

Nandowra is by Waikato Stud sire Savabeel and is the first foal of a winning half-sister to G3 AJC Summer Cup winner Zanetta (Centaine).
