Redoute’s Choice mare King’s Rose can go one better than Miss Finland and complete the Memsie Stakes – Cox Plate double this year.

King’s Rose (4m Redoute’s Choice – Nureyev’s Girl by Nureyev) firmed into $26 for the Cox Plate after overhauling Heart Of Dreams in the Memsie Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.

The Kiwi mare was previously trained by Mark Walker and Jason Bridgeman and was the champion filly of her generation winning the G1 1000 Guineas, G2 Royal Stakes, G2 Sir Tristram Classic and G3 Eulogy Stakes in 2010-11.

She finished the season with unplaced efforts in the G3 Lowland Stakes and G1 NZ Oaks but was back in the winning groove first-up in Australia.

Redoute’s Choice mare Miss Finland started a $4 favourite in the 2007 Cox Plate after beating Haradasun in the Memsie Stakes.  But the Lindsay Park heroine finished a well-beaten fourth behind El Segundo at Moonee Valley.

“I believe King’s Rose is more of a 1600m to 2000m horse,” trainer Peter Moody said after the mare’s victory over 1400 metres.  “Her next start will be in either the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes or the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.”

The winner is a homebred for Hong Kong based Dr Gene Tsoi.  His flag-bearer until now has been Encosta De Lago mare Elegant Fashion who was a G2 winner at Flemington, Caulfield and Moonee Valley before transferring off-shore to capture the 2003 Hong Kong Derby.

King’s Rose is from Australian bred Nureyev mare Nureyev’s Girl.  She was stakes-placed at Morphettville and is a winning half-sister to Randwick stakes winner Roanoke (Danehill).

A Red Ransom half-brother to King’s Rose sold for a sale-topping $875,000 at the NZ Bloodstock Karaka yearling sale in February.
