Merwaan is one of the best bred horses going around at Muswellbrook this afternoon and he can win again in the Wayne Harris Life Member Hcp (Race 8 at 5.05pm AEDT).
Merwaan (4g Fusaichi Pegasus – Jump ‘n’ Move by Catrail) opened his account in a Mudgee maiden in April and looked a progressive type when a last-start Muswellbrook winner in Class 1 company.
Gosford trainer Grant Allard has stepped him up to 1550 metres at his third run back from a spell and Pat Ferris should have him chiming in at the finish.
Merwaan is a FuPeg gelding from a half-sister to G1 VRC Australian Guineas winner Al Maher (Danehill) who is making a great fist of his stud career at Emirates Park.
The family also boasts Arrowfield’s champion sire Redoute’s Choice and other successful stallions like Umatilla (Blue Gum) and Hurricane Sky (Durham Lodge).
Top colt Manhattan Rain (Encosta de Lago), a G1 winner of the AJC Sires Produce Stakes earlier this year, is another close relation headed for stud when he retires.
