The G3 Summer Cup (2000m) field came home in well-spaced intervals behind Mighty Lucky at Randwick on Saturday.
The Casino Prince galloper had not won past 1500m in his previous 36 starts but his first ever test at 2000m will ensure there are more distances races to come. Given the run of the race by Kathy O’Hara, he accelerated past pacesetter Junoob in the straight and showed no signs of stopping to win by more than two lengths.
It was the third stakes win for the Fred Cowell-trained gelding following the LR Luskin Star Stakes at Scone and LR Festival Stakes at Rosehill for overall earnings of $543,000.
“His form has been terrific,” O’Hara said. “Fred has done a great job and the genuine tempo up front was a solid test for him.”
The son of the Vinery Stud-based Casino Prince is the third foal of Buxom Babe (Octagonal), a half-sister to stakes winner and sire High Rolling.
Casino Prince has 8 yearlings catalogued for the Gold Coast Magic Millions in January and there are another 8 lots entered for the Inglis Summer Classic Sale in February.
