Redoute’s Choice has broken through the million dollar mark with his current crop of two year-olds, thanks to promising colt Albrecht.
Albrecht (2c Redoute’s Choice – O’Giselle by Octagonal) claimed the Parramatta Leagues Club Hcp (1250m) on debut despite ducking out in the straight at Canterbury on Wednesday. “I like this bloke,” Darley trainer Peter Snowden told AAP as the winner returned to scale. “He’s still a bit immature but has got a lot of potential and is destined for better races.”
Redoute’s Choice got him from a sister to Group 1 racehorse and sire Lonhro. Albrecht banked $27,550 in prizemoney and BOBS bonuses to take his sire’s juvenile earnings to $1,010,264 in Australia this season.
No Looking Back leads the way for the Arrowfield champion despite losing the Magic Millions 2YO Classic after a controversial protest.
Arrowfield Stud sires dominate the juvenile leader-board this season with Redoute’s Choice (5th) and his sire sons Snitzel (2nd) and Not A Single Doubt (6th) all prominent in the premiership.
The Redoute’s Choice two year-old division also includes a couple of international classic prospects. Kiwi filly Pure Elegance won by five lengths at her only start in March for owner-breeders Peter and Philip Vela. Mark her down as a long-range tip for the NZ 1000 Guineas on November 17.
His South African based filly Honorine looked every inch a stakes winner of the future when she won on debut at Scottsville last Wednesday. She blew like a gale in the betting ring but was taken straight to the front and was always in command to score comfortably by next to two lengths.
Honorine is trained by Mike de Kock and was an $80,000 buy from Bellerive Stud at the 2011 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale. De Kock also prepared G1 winning Redoute’s Choice colt Musir.
