Miss Andretti has given birth to her first foal at Toolooganvale Stud in the Hunter Valley. A chestnut colt by Darley shuttler Exceed And Excel arrived after a difficult delivery on Tuesday.
“She was two weeks late so we were getting a little anxious,” managing owner Sean Buckley said. “The foal presented itself the wrong way around so it wasn’t a straightforward delivery. But both of them are fine now.”
Miss Andretti (Ihtiram – Peggie’s Bid by Marooned) was bred in Western Australia by Keith and Peggie Beauglehole. The dam has also foaled smart Perth sprinters Danny Beau (Zedrich) and Charlie Beau (Ihtiram).
Peggie’s Bid delivered full sisters to the champion mare in 2006 and 2007 and she also foaled a yearling full brother to her last November but then missed to Husson Lightning.
Miss Andretti was originally raced by David Mueller but a majority share in the mare was sold to Buckley before her career took off with Lee Freedman.
She won 19 sprints including five at Group 1 level. She was also successful in the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot when that event was still a Group 2.
Buckley intends to sell her colt at the 2011 yearling sales.
