Moody mare wins Manihi Classic

Angels Beach extended Bel Esprit’s black-type tally to 19 in the LR Manihi Classic (1050m) at Morphettville on Saturday.

The Peter Moody trained mare ranged up to Group 1 winning filly Miracles Of Life (Redoute’s Choice) in the final few strides to score by a short-neck.  Veteran sprinter Esprit De Bullet (Bel Esprit) was two lengths away in third place.

Angels Beach (4m Bel Esprit – Descendant by Zeditave) has won three on end this year after on-pace victories at Flemington and Caulfield.  “She’s a quality mare,” winning jockey Linda Meech said.  “We had a rough run but I was always confident.  I just needed a bit of luck.

“She used to be a barrier rogue but seems to have her head together at the moment.  Hopefully, it’s onwards and upwards from here.”

Bel Esprit is rapidly reducing Reset’s lead at the top of the Victorian sires’ premiership.  The Darley stallion skipped clear in October after Fawkner earned $1.65 million for winning the Caulfield but the margin is now only $105,000.

Angels Beach was a $220,000 buy for Les Cowell at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  She is a half-sister to Sydney stakes winner Patronyme (More Than Ready) and is the last foal of their dam  Descendant who died in October 2012.
