Singapore trainer Desmond Koh believes his Street Cry mare Locus Standi will develop into a black-type performer this year.  The former Perth based sprinter was an impressive first-up winner carrying 58.5kg on Friday night.  The victory improved her Kranji record to three wins from six starts for the Blue Chip Stable.

Locus Standi (Street Cry) etched her name in black-type on several occasions as a three year-old in WA.  She was originally trained by Shane Edwards to win the Listed Burgess Queen Stakes before an unlucky second to Moccasin Bend in the G2 WA Guineas at Ascot.

“She is a very game filly and I think she can handle the step up in grade,” Koh said on Friday night.  “If we can keep her in the right frame of mind then I’m sure we’ll be able to tackle some of the bigger races.”

Locus Standi is by Darley sire Street Cry and cost a mere $13,000 as a foal at the 2006 Magic Millions National weanling sale on the Gold Coast.  Her dam Zintime (Snaadee) was also culled by Woodlands at the same sale and was exported to The Phillipines for $17,000.

Street Cry certainly upgraded the bottom half of the Locus Standi pedigree – Zintime retired a maiden as did second dam Masters Time (Affirmed) and third dam Spring Is Sprung (Herbager).  The previous black-type in her pedigree goes back 20 years to French G1 sprinter Priolo.
