More changes at Magic Millions

New Zealand agent Paul Beamish is joining Magic Millions as its representative in NSW.  He will replace Tony Williams.

It’s the latest in a series of internal changes since Gerry Harvey became sole owner of the auction house.  Harvey absorbed the minority shares in the company held by John Singleton and Rob Ferguson in January 2011.

Magic Millions managing director Stephen Silk, who had only been on board for five months, immediately quit his post.  He was replaced by Vin Cox.

Long-time marketing manager Annie McDonald also moved on last September.  She joined the company in 2001 and, after leaving to set up her own marketing consultancy in 2007, returned for another three years before signing off for a second time.

Beamish’s appointment is the third shake-up among Magic Millions state managers in the last month.

In Perth, David Houston arrived from Victoria to take over from home-town representative Murray Tillett.  And South Australian manager Chris Russell also left the company to join rival auctioneer Inglis.

Beamish grew up around horses on a farm in New Zealand and, prior to becoming a bloodstock agent, spent time playing and managing polo teams in both New Zealand and Australia.

He also worked at studs in England and Ireland before returning to New Zealand’s Okawa Stud when it was home to leading sire Three Legs.

He established Beamish Bloodstock in 1985 and since then has played a role in the careers of G1 winners Richfield Lady, Merry Maiden, Floral Pegasus, Able One and Eagle Regiment.
