USA Eclipse Award winner Hollywood Wildcat has died at Roseglade Farm in Kentucky. The 22 year-old mare foaled 8 winners including Breeders’ Cup Mile hero War Chant.
Hollywood Wildcat (Kris S.) was a homebred for Irving and Marjorie Cowan and her career highlights included G1 victories in the 1993 Breeders’ Cup Distaff, Hollywood Oaks and 1994 Hollywood Gamely Hcp.
The Cowans owned the high-profile Diplomat Hotel in Hollywood and they also bred and campaigned her second foal War Chant who emulated his dam with a G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile triumph in 2000.
War Chant (Danzig) shuttles from Three Chimneys Farm to Yarradale Stud. He will cover a second southern book at the leading West Australian nursery this year.
War Chant has sired 251 winners of 708 races world-wide at a 66% strike-rate. He covered 104 mares at Yarradale last year at a $22,000 (inc gst) service fee.
Hollywood Wildcat also foaled English G2 winner Ivan Denisovich (Danehill). He shuttled to Australia for the first time in 2007 but was stranded at the Eastern Creek quarantine station due to the E.I. crisis.
Ivan Denisovich returned to Coolmore’s Irish headquarters without serving a mare but he did eventually cover southern books after transferring to Chile in 2010.
