Zero Rock was a class above her rivals in the LR Travel Associates Classic at Eagle Farm on Saturday though trainer Kelso Wood was worried about her ability to lump 57.5kgs.
The locally based conditioner had cause for concern when Zero Rock was under pressure approaching the furlong. But the Danzero mare dug deep and responded when it counted for jockey Chris Munce.
Zero Rock (6m Danzero – Broc ‘n’ Roll by Brocco) cost just $16,000 at the 2007 Magic Millions July Sale and the latest cheque sent her earnings over $895,000 for her owner David Devine.
“I was worried when they went up to her in the straight,” Wood said. “But I knew she wouldn’t let me down.”
Her sire Danzero transferred from Arrowfield to Rosemont Stud this year. The 20 year-old has a marvellous record at the Magic Millions and Zero Rock is heading back to the Gold Coast for the Magic Millions Cup (1400m) on January 14.
Zero Rock won the Magic Millions Plate in 2009 and split Bold Glance and Captain Sonador in the Magic Millions Cup last year.
Danzero’s other Magic Millions winners Dance Hero and Hidden Winder could be joined by his promising three year-old Confident Star who will have a crack at the Magic Millions Guineas in January.
The first Danzero to parade at the 2012 Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale is Lot 410, a colt on account of Newhaven Park from Scenic mare Wai Lin.
His dam Wai Lin won at Moonee Valley and there’s a double up with Zero Rock through his second dam Miss Pennymoney. Another daughter of Brocco, she was a G1 winner of the 2000 VRC Newmarket.
Brocco (Kris S.) shuttled to the Hunter Valley for six years after winning the 1993 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and 2004 Santa Anita Derby.
Durham Lodge took him a back to Western Australia in 2005 and he covered another five books before a further transfer to Quanah Park last year.
