Mungrup Stud sires Due Sasso and Oratorio (Aus) notched a welcome double on the Kingston Town Classic card at Ascot on Saturday.
Due Sasso filly Paratonnerre opened proceedings with a narrow victory in the MM Electrical Kalgoorlie Hcp (1000m). Later in the day, Oratorio mare Latoria demolished her rivals in the Lord Mayors Cup.
Due Sasso (Scenic) was a G3 winner of the 2006 Blue Diamond Prelude at Caulfield for owner-breeder Des Pope but injury curtailed his career after just 8 starts.
He was purchased by Mungrup studmaster Gray Williamson in association with Lex and Shirley Piper and has now sired 7 winners and 10 placegetters from 23 first crop starters.
Paratonnerre is prepared by in-form trainer Simon Miller. Her dam Quicksand (Zeditave) has a yearling filly by Due Sasso and she foaled a colt by Yarradale sire Discorsi in September.
Lord Mayors Cup winner Latoria is a Mungrup product through and through. Oratorio (Aus) got her from a mare by Mungrup trailblazer Metal Storm.
Latoria showed a sizzling turn of foot to win by three lengths in 57.12s for 1000 metres. Trainer Jim Taylor will tune her up for the Summer Scorcher on New Years Eve.
Latoria is a homebred for Des De Largie and her dam Laventour (Metal Storm) is from an unraced half-sister to Track Jester (Tenby) who won 8 races for De Largie including the G3 Asian Beau Stakes.
Mungrup stood Oratorio (Stravinsky) for a WA record $33,000 (inc gst) last year. It was reduced in line with market trends to $27,500 this year.
