More Than Ready has weight of numbers on his side to cement his reputation as the Golden Slipper sire in 2012 with more than 10 percent of the second acceptances for the big race.
Of the 258 declarations lodged this week with the Australian Turf Club, 26 of the aspiring two-year-olds are by More Than Ready giving him the largest representation of any sire.
Among More Than Ready’s 2012 Golden Slipper hopefuls are the Gai Waterhouse duo Raceway and Later Gator, debut winner Faustus (John O’Shea) as well as the Victorian pair Samaready and Cambiaso, both of whom are engaged in the respective divisions of Saturday’s MRC Blue Diamond Preludes at Caulfield.
Vinery Stud’s Adam White believes that a third Golden Slipper is well within reach in 2012. “Gai’s More Than Readys both won first-up by four lengths and have the speed that is required to win a Slipper,” White said, ”Gai trained the Magic Millions Classic quinella and there’s no reason why she couldn’t do it again in the Slipper with Raceway and Later Gator.
“Faustus is still a bit of a dark horse at the moment. The colt was very good on debut at Rosehill and his connections elected to bypass the Magic Millions to concentrate solely on the Slipper.”
Meanwhile, the Vinery owned Samaready and Maribyrnong Trial winner Cambiaso remain on the Blue Diamond path on route to the Slipper and are highly fancied for Saturday.
“The Blue Diamond will obviously be their first priority depending on what happens tomorrow but the Golden Slipper evidently remains a realistic option – it’s the richest races for two-year-olds in the world and the prestige and stud value waiting for the winner is undeniable.
“We are thrilled that More Than Ready is destined to play such a big part in the race yet again.”
More Than Ready is among an elite few stallions to sire multiple Golden Slipper winners. His first winner came in 2008 via Sebring who was later sold to stud for a reported $28 million. The year after, Queenslander Phelan Ready became the first horse since Dance Hero to win the Magic Millions – Golden Slipper double.
More Than Ready has sired the winner or placegetter in the last four Golden Slippers. More Strawberries (2010) and Elite Falls (2011) both drew barrier 14 and gave away sizeable starts before storming into the placings.
More Than Ready has proven himself to be the world’s undisputed source of quality two-year-olds. His honours include; Champion First Season Sire in Australia (2006), Twice Champion 2YO Sire in Australia (2008 & 2009) and was crowned Champion USA 2YO Sire in 2010 after siring the winners of both the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile divisions.
There are 30 More Than Ready yearlings available at the Inglis Easter Sale this year and they are sure to be in demand as he consolidates his record with 2yo runners and emerging 3yos like Proliferate and Huegill.
