Southern Speed named South Australian Horse of the Year

Southern Speed has been named Horse of the Year at the South Australian TBA awards in Adelaide.  The Caulfield Cup winner is raced by Harry Perks and his Toorak Park Stud partners Trevor Robertson and Rod Fairclough.

Southern Speed (Southern Image) returned to racing with a first-up victory in the LR John Dillon Stakes at Caulfield on Australia Day and her next assignment is against Black Caviar in the G1 C F Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield this Saturday.

Perks and his partners also collected awards as Breeders of the Leading 2YO Secret Status (King Cugat), Leading 3YO Southern Speed (Southern Image) and fellow Horse of the Year Finalist Perfect Punch (Starcraft).  Toorak Park also won the SABOIS Breeders Premiership.

Kambula Stud’s Blevic was named Champion South Australian Sire and Cornerstone Stud’s Barely A Moment received the Champion 2YO Sire award.

Mill Park Stud owner Chris Watson collected the Broodmare of the Year award with Pushing Daisies (Kenny’s Best Pal) for her G1 AJC Epsom Hcp winner Captain Sonador.  Mill Park also bred Horse of Year finalist Catapulted (Catbird).
