Mossman’s Double Impact at Doomben

Double Impact lived up to his name with a return-to-form victory at Doomben on Saturday.  The Toowoomba galloper was the first leg of an interstate double for Vinery sire Mossman.

Double Impact (3g Mossman – Cornish Moss by Barathea) is heading for bigger wins according to jockey Eddie Wilkinson.  “His run in the Magic Millions Guineas was super,” Wilkinson said.  “It was a really fast run race and he was entitled to knock up near the end.”

Toowoomba trainer Jackie Compton said the drop in class and the heavy conditions helped him score a narrow win in the Good Guys QTIS Hcp.  “He pulled up well after the Magic Millions and I was confident on a wet track,” she said.  “We gave him a good spell after the winter carnival and it’s taken him for him to come good.”

Double Impact (2g Mossman – Cornish Moss by Barathea) was purchased by senior part owner Jimmy Georgiou for $35,000 from the Baramul Stud draft at the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  He jumped the blocks as an early-season juvenile winning the Hopeful Plate at Toowoomba in September of the year.

His dam Cornish Moss is a half sister to the Melbourne stakes winner Heaps of Fun.  Second dam Calemoss (Twig Moss) is a half sister to G1 Elders Mile winner Caledonian Boy and the dam of the G1 Thousand Guineas winner Lady of the Pines.

Later in the day, Mossman sprinter Stirling Grove won the Adelaide Casino Cup (1200m) at Morphettville.  He has won 7 races in 19 starts and was also G2 placed behind Black Caviar in the Schillaci Stakes last October.

Mossman stands at Vinery for $27,500 and he started the Australia Day long weekend with a bang in the LR Blue Diamond Preview on Thursday.  His colt The Travelling Man scored a barrier-to-box victory at Caulfield and immediately firmed into $9 for the G1 Blue Diamond (1200m) on February 27.
