Former Baerami Thoroughbreds shuttler Mount Nelson was represented by his first winner in Bordeaux on Wednesday.
His filly Lasdramad landed the Prix des Orchidees (1200m) for owner-breeder Olivier Carli of Haras de Logis Saint Germain at La Teste de Buch.
Lasdramad (2f Mount Nelson – Andramad by Fasliyev) led all the way to score by over a length from Dibajj (Iffraaj) and Chalnetta (Oratorio). Her Irish bred dam Andramad won a Naas maiden in 26 starts and second dam Petite Fantasy (Mansooj) was a Listed winner of the Belgrave Stakes at Leopardstown.
Mount Nelson (Rock Of Gibraltar) was a G1 winner of the 2006 Criterium International at Saint-Cloud and the 2008 Coral Eclipse Stakes at Sandown for Aidan O’Brien before retiring to Newsells Park in Hertfordshire. He is bred on the same Danzig – Sharpen Up cross as both Danehill Dancer and Invincible Spirit.
Mount Nelson covered a book of just 25 mares in his sole season at Baerami Thoroughbreds in the Hunter Valley. He stood at a $16,500 (inc gst) fee in 2009 but didn’t return after such a disappointing response from broodmare owners.
Now rising two year-olds, his top priced youngster at this year’s majors was a $29,000 colt from Chichi Romero (O’Reilly) at the Inglis Classic Sale.
