Moving feast for Host Of The Party

Host Of The Party continued the remarkable winning run for Swettenham Stud stallion Host at Seymour on Sunday.

Host (Chi) is jumping out of the ground with his first-crop three year-olds and trainers like Greg Eurell, Mick Kent and Robert Smerdon are convinced they will keep improving as the season progresses.

That’s very encouraging news for Adam Sangster and his team at Swettenham considering 63% of Host’s winners have scored either on debut or first-up this year.

Host Of The Party (3g Host – Pipkin by Gallo di Ferro) looked to be struggling in the middle stages of his debut in the Railway Club Hotel Plate (1300m) but he knuckled down to win by a length.  “He’s still learning and wasn’t really travelling until the final furlong,” winning jockey Dwayne Dunn explained.  “But I think he will be a serious horse once he gets up to a suitable trip.”

Host Of The Party is owned by Dunn’s wife Amanda in partnership with the Mounting Hard and Successful Syndicates.  He was a $24,000 buy from Balcrest Stud at the 2011 Adelaide Magic Millions.

Balcrest owner John Haigh raced his dam Pipkin and she won the LR Centaurea Stakes (2000m) at Morphettville and was also G1 placed in the 2003 South Australian Oaks (2500m) won by Larrocha.

Host (Hussonet) is the sire of unbeaten three year-olds Philippi and Hosting and they will come back in the autumn all the better for brief spring campaigns.  Philippi completed a winning hat-trick in the Listed UCI Stakes at Flemington earlier this month and owner-breeder Rick Jamieson has his full brother on the ground at Gilgai Farm.

Meanwhile, Host’s last-start Ballarat winner Tronador has accepted for the LR Geelong Classic (2200) this Wednesday.  Trainer Danny Laws has booked Damien Oliver for the ride in the $120,000 event.

Host stands at Swettenham Stud for a $7,500 (inc gst) service fee.   Broodmare owners can contact nominations manager Chris Belli on 0417 514 552 or Swettenham owner Adam Sangster on 0418 543 633.
