Randwick’s quagmire conditions failed to dampen dazzling mare Sacred Choice in the G1 Doncaster Mile on Saturday.
Sacred Choice (5m Choisir – Sacred Habit by Sir Tristram) revelled in the Heavy 10 going to score a dominant win over Love Conquers All (Mossman), Bold Glance (Sequalo), Syreon (Flying Spur) and Ilovethiscity (Magic Albert). The first five home are all graduates of the Magic Millions.
It was the second elite level victory for the Joe Pride trained mare following her win over Typhoon Tracy and Hot Danish in the Myer Classic at Flemington in November. “When she broke away there was nothing that was going to catch her,” Pride said. “I was worried about cover but she settled well and just sprints like a gazelle on heavy tracks.”
Considering she cost just $40,000 at the 2007 Gold Coast Magic Millions, Sacred Choice has done an incredible job for connections. Her earnings are approaching $1.95 million and she’s also a valuable broodmare prospect being closely related to Golden Slipper winner Marauding.
Her sire Choisir has sired 383 individual winners world-wide shuttling between Coolmore Stud’s Irish headquarters and the Hunter Valley. Sacred Choice and Coolmore’s champion sprinter Starspangledbanner head his black-type tally of 28 stakes winners
A full brother to Sacred Choice has been catalogued for the 2011 Magic Milllions National yearling sale which commences on June 5 at the Gold Coast.
