Herman Munster won New Zealand’s final stakes race of the season in the Listed Taumarunui Gold Cup (2100m) at Te Rapa on Saturday.  He cost just $5,000 from the Strathcarron Stud draft at the 2006 NZB South Island Sale.

Herman Munster (5g Traditionally – H’Ani by Woodman) is a big-framed bay and he came from the second half of the field to win by over a length from Dubhdara (Shinko King) and Amirar (Ekraar).  “He’s my mate,” Waverley based owner trainer Sam Lennox said.  “He’s my farm hack and I’m just so proud of him.”

Herman Munster is by a former The Oaks shuttler Traditionally (Mr Prospector) and has now earned $97,000 from 4 wins for Lennox, his brother Guy and mother Joan.  He is a younger half-brother to Jukebox Johnny (Marju) who won 7 races up to 2400m and was also G2 placed in the 2007 MRC Sandown Classic behind Zipping.

The Te Rapa meeting also saw Yangming (Danroad) win the Stuart Browne The Group Premier.  He was a $20,000 purchase from Odyssey Lodge at the 2008 South Island 2YO Sale.  He is trained by Tony Pike and Mark Donoghue for owners Mrs Yang and Q M Zhu.

Meanwhile at Caulfield on Saturday, Abitofado (Black Tuxedo) increased his winnings to $230,000 after winning the Chisholm Institute Hcp (1800m). The Mike Moroney runner was a $6,000 purchase at the 2006 South Island Sale by Paul Harris from Wickham Park.

The 2010 NZ Bloodstock’s 2YO South Island Sale is set for Friday 6 August.
