New Weapon for More Than Ready

Vinery champion More Than Ready unveiled another classic candidate in Perth on Christmas Eve.

More Than Ready sired Dreamaway to win the 2011 WA Derby and he can double up with The Weapon when the 2012 WA Derby is run on April 14.

The Weapon (3g More The Ready – Bare Assessment by Honor Grades) flew home to defeat Venetian Prince (Ad Valorem) and Akhedasset (Akhenaton) in a hectic finish to the A Perth Gloryus Xmas Hcp (1400m) at Ascot.

The gelding is nominated for the Magic Millions 3yo Guineas on the Gold Coast next month but will stay in Perth.  “He is up there with the better horses I’ve trained,” Adam Durrant claimed.   “He has an enormous heart rate and lung capacity and should be a genuine WA Derby horse.”

The Weapon was beaten a head on debut at Belmont in August before going out for a spell.  “He was tipped out and gelded after Belmont,” Durrant explained.  “Otherwise he would have become just too big.”

Geisel Park’s Eddie Rigg sold The Weapon for $140,000 at the 2010 Perth Magic Millions.  Rigg had purchased his USA bred dam Bare Assessment for $80,000 from the Vinery draft at the 2008 Magic Millions National Sale.

Rigg has a Due Sasso – Bare Assessment colt catalogued for the 2012 Perth Magic Millions in February.  The mare died in July 2011.
