A world of opportunities opened up for Ransom Note after his G2 victory in the Joel Stakes (1600m) at Newmarket on Friday.

A son of Vinery legend Red Ransom, he has the option of heading to the G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile at Churchill Downs or the G1 Hong Kong Mile at Sha Tin later this year before gearing up for the Dubai carnival in March 2012.

Ransom Note (4c by Red Ransom – Zacheta by Polish Precedent) made all the running and slipped the field 400m from home.  The late closers faced a huge task in pursuit and never looked like bridging the leeway.

“I knew something would have to be quite good to get me,” jockey Michael Hills said.  “He was picking up the whole way.”

Ransom Note first gave notice of his potential with feature wins at Royal Ascot and York’s Ebor meeting last year.

He returned this term for a G3 victory in the Earl of Sefton Stakes at Newmarket in April but didn’t salute in four subsequent runs in England and France.  “He’s a lovely horse but went missing in the middle part of the season,” Hills added.  “He’s come back now.”

Red Ransom (Roberto) was aged 22 when he died after intestinal surgery at Vinery Australia in November 2009.  He got the Joel Stakes winner from an unraced half-sister to G1 Arc de Triomphe winner Marienbard.

Red Ransom was raced by Paul Mellon and broke the Saratoga track record on debut in August 1989 when he clocked 56.40s for 1000 metres.  His career was restricted to just three starts but was an immediate success at stud.

His sire sons in this part of the world include All American and Charge Forward (Arrowfield), Domesday (Darley), Red Dazzler (Eureka) and Onemorenomore who stands at Vinery by arrangement with Nathan Tinkler.
