WA based Danehill sire Nova Sofala has transferred to Korilya Stud for his first commercial season 2009.
Nova Sofala, a former $800,000 yearling buy for Sheikh Mohammed, served five mares last year but is assured of a much bigger book with Korilya owner Ellie Giles.
“He is a magnificent horse and obviously we bought him as a stud proposition,” Darley’s former manager Ollie Tait said. “Our aim was to win a Group 1 but he was a slow maturer.”
Nova Sofala was bred by the Fleming family at Tyreel Stud and is a blue blood in every sense of the word. He is by champion sire Danehill from the Star Way mare Bonanova whose six stakes wins included the G1 VRC Emirates Stakes in 1999.
Bonanova is a sister to G1 winners Telesto and Fraternity from the famed Eight Carat family. She is the dam of Listed winners Prima Nova (Gosford Belle Of The Turf Stakes) and Bonaichi. (NZ Bonecrusher Stakes).
Nova Sofala didn’t reach those lofty heights…he scored at Goulburn before transferring to WA where he added wins at Geraldton and Northam.
