Noverre filly wins Falmouth Stakes

Former Darley shuttler Noverre sired his second Group 1 winner since being sold to India when Music Show scored a deserved victory in the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket on Wednesday.

Music Show (3f Noverre – Dreamboat by Mr. Prospector) was bred by Darley and sold for just 16,000 euros at the Goresbridge 2YO Sale in May 2009.  The Falmouth sent her earnings soaring to 287,786 euros (AUD 424,835) for owner Jaber Abdullah.

The Noverre filly was settled at the tail of the 8 horse field of fillies before making headway under jockey Richard Hughes.  Slipped into overdrive, she overhauled long-time leader Spacious (Nayef) to win by two lengths.

Music Show won the G2 Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket last year and she resumed this term for a G3 victory in the Nell Gwyn Stakes.  Luck was right against the Mick Channon trained filly when she stepped up for the English and Irish Guineas in May.  She was caught on the wrong side of the course at Newmarket and was then beaten a head and a neck at the Curragh.

“She’s a class filly who has just been unfortunate in lots of races,” Channon said.  “She’s put it right here in what is probably the best fillies race of the year.  Everything went great and Richard could sit in behind and take his time.”

Coronation Stakes winner Lillie Langtry (Danehill Dancer) disappointed as did the English and French 1000 Guineas winner  Special Duty (Hennessy).

Noverre (Rahy) shuttled to Australia for five seasons until 2007.  He has sired 71 winners in Australia and NZ at an impressive 62% strike-rate, however, Listed Tauranga Classic winner Platinum Zana has been the only one to score at black-type level.

After serving his final book of mares at Darley Australia in 2007, Noverre was re-routed to Sohna Stud Farm which is situated 100 kms from New Delhi.  A few months later, his top-class colt Le Havre emerged to win a juvenile event at Saint-Cloud.  Trainer Jean-Claude Rouget brought him back for a classic campaign that climaxed with a G1 triumph in the 2009 French Derby at Chantilly.

Music Show will continue to showcase Noverre at Group 1 level in the Prix Rothschild at Deauville on August 1 and the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown on September 4.
