Australia’s reigning Horse of the Year Typhoon Tracy has been retired on Group 1 high and now speculation will focus on her breeding career.  Trainer Peter Moody and owner John Hutchins called a halt on her racing career after a hard fought victory in the G1 C F Orr Stakes (1400m) on Saturday.

Born and reared at Vinery, Typhoon Tracy boasts a strong pedigree with her broodmare value further maximised by G1 triumphs in the MRC Orr Stakes (2), STC Coolmore Classic, VRC Myer Classic, MRC Futurity Stakes and STC Queen Of The Turf Stakes.

From the moment Typhoon Tracy was born, racing was always a second career for her.  “She always had a broodmare career before she raced, that was already done with her pedigree,” stable spokesman Jeff O’Connor said.  “Her racing career has been a huge bonus.

“Every member of her family has done terrific at stud.  It didn’t matter if she didn’t win a Group 1, she was always going to have that ahead of her.”

Typhoon Tracy (5m Red Ransom – Tracy’s Element by Last Tycoon) is a sister to Flemington stakes winner Red Element who is based at Glenlogan Park.

Their dam Tracy’s Element was a four-time G1 winner in South Africa and she has a 2yo filly named Madam Tracy (Encosta de Lago) plus a filly foal by the same sire.  She was bred back to More Than Ready last year.

Tracy’s Element is a sister to NZ sire Towkay and a half-sister to the Danehill sires Danasinga and Cullen.  Second dam Princess Tracy (Ahonoora) was an Irish G3 winner and she is a sister to the dam of leading sires Shalford and Bletchley Park.

There will be no shortage of stallions to choose from when Typhoon Tracy goes to stud in the Hunter Valley this spring.  And being free of Northern Dancer – Danehill blood opens up numerous options for John Hutchins.
