Ocala raises bar for breeding stock

The North American market for yearlings has shown signs of stability this year and the latest major breeding stock auction also raised the bar at the Ocala Breeders’ Sale on Tuesday.

Day 1 of the Florida select sale averaged $15,783 which was up 42% from 12 months ago.  The clearance rate also improved four points to 74%.

Storm Cat mare Zehoorr topped Day 1 at $250,000.  She was part of the Westbury Stables consignment and was offered in foal to Tiznow.

The Westbury dispersal included the next three on the leader-board.  Chasenthebluesaway (Real Quiet) was sold to Baccari Bloodstock for $100,000 in foal to Indian Charlie.

New York City Girl (Forest Camp) was offered in foal to More Than Ready and sold to Rustlewood Farm $90,000.  Sailor Pluto (You and I) was next best at $85,000.  She is in foal to Zensational.

The day’s highest priced weanling was a colt by Cowtown Cat out of She Did Tell (West by West).  The chestnut colt is a half brother to stakes winner Thank You Philippe and was sold to Windridge Farm for $70,000.

The foals catalogued for the Florida sale are the first weanlings bred on stud fees that were cut after the American recession turned into a global financial crisis.

The OBS Sale concludes on Wednesday with an Open session.
