Patinack Farm has announced its Group 1 winning sprinter Onemorenomore has been retired.
Onemorenomore stumbled at Warwick Farm on Tuesday morning whilst trotting and went down on his knees. X-rays revealed a damaged exterior carpal bone. Prognosis of a return to the races was good, however, the injury would require 12 months of rehabilitation before he could return to the races.
“It’s a devastating blow to us,” owner Nathan Tinkler said. “He is a colt very close to my heart as he is the first Group 1 winner that we bought as a yearling.
“The horse looked absolutely magnificent and we had extremely high hopes for him in the autumn and to lose him to such an innocuous accident is a crushing blow to John Thompson and all the team at Warwick Farm.”
Purchased by Patinack for $800,000 from the Cressfield draft at the 2008 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, Onemorenomore was the most expensive sale yearling by Red Ransom in 2008.
A half-brother to Listed winner Dr Green, Onemorenomore is out of the Group 3 winner Palia (Last Tycoon) and is a sister to the dam of Patinack Farm’s Group 1 winner Casino Prince.
“If there is a consolation it is that he will now be able to stand alongside Casino Prince at Patinack,” Tinkler said. “If there is such a thing as a blue-blooded stallion prospect then this horse is it, especially with Red Ransom passing away earlier this year.”
Casino Prince (Flying Spur) provided Patinack Farm with its first Group 1 winner when he took out the 2008 AJC Chipping Norton Stakes after being purchased privately as a racing and stallion prospect. He has his first foals on the ground and they are outstanding individuals.
In winning Randwick’s G1 Champagne Stakes over 1600m, Onemorenomore added his name to an illustrious list of previous winners including leading sires Luskin Star, Baguette, Vain, Sky High, Noholme, Todman and Heroic.
“The Australian yearling market wants juvenile Group 1 winners by proven sires and in Onemorenomore those wishes will come true for breeders in 2010,” Tinkler says. “We look forward to Onemorenomore embarking on his new career and it goes without saying that I will support him with my best mares.”
