Former Perth galloper Snickerdoodledandy kicked off a winning weekend for Gold Front Breeding & Racing at Flemington on Saturday.

A Listed winner of the Burgess Queen Stakes at Ascot last November, the 3yo Snitzel filly came from last at the half-mile to win the $125,000 VRC Member Ben Edney Trophy (1400m) under champion jockey-elect Jamie Kah.

Snickerdoodledandy was a $280,000 buy for Gold Front’s Alan & Sue Olive at the 2019 Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale.  She built on the back of a nicely-judged, well-timed ride to defeat WA-bred filly Witchfulthinking (War Chant) by a half-length.

“Ooh, Ah, Jamie Kah,” a delighted winning trainer Peter Moody said.  “She’s a lovely rider, isn’t she?  This filly just got bloused last time by one at the weights and she took that nice improvement today.

“I actually thought halfway down the straight that Patrick Moloney on Witchfulthinking had controlled the race extremely well and she might struggle to get there.  But who was I to doubt her?”

Snickerdoodledandy can continue the black-type flowing through the veins of her dam Crafty Irna (G3 Adrian Knox Stakes) and second-dam Zirna (G1 NZ Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes).  That would lead Gold Front to revaluate her residual value in the next twelve months.

Gold Front struck again on Sunday when Loving Babe dashed three lengths clear in a Class 5 at Kranji.  He box-seated for Danny Beasley riding for Jason Ong who trains the 4yo for Torpedo Racing Stable.

Loving Babe is by former Yarradale sire Scandal Keeper (Danzig) and was exported to Singapore after being passed-in by Gold Front at the 2018 Perth Magic Millions.  His dam Snazzy Jazzy (Lonhro) is a close relation of Singapore stakes winner Hippo Valour (Sound Reason).

Gold Front’s Gingin property is home to Group 1 VRC Emirates Stakes winner Awesome Rock (Fastnet Rock) who will stand for $5,000 in 2021.  Group 2 Moonee Valley winner Leonardo Da Hinchi (Hinchinbrook) will be covering his second book at $3,000.  Fees (inc GST).
